Online Programs to use with Clients
Two research-tested programs from the developers of Coping Cat. Clinicians use them to extend treatment between sessions, involve parents, and reach more families with fewer therapist hours.
Evidence: Randomized trials found Camp Cope-A-Lot as effective as individual Coping Cat CBT with fewer therapist hours (Khanna & Kendall, 2010, JCCP), and more effective than usual care in community mental health centers (Storch et al., 2015, Depression and Anxiety).
Camp Cope-A-Lot
Computer-assisted CBT for anxious children, based on Coping Cat
Twelve animated modules teach kids to recognize anxious feelings, change anxious self-talk, problem-solve, and reward themselves for facing fears. Kids complete the first six on their own; the last six are done with a coach (you or a trained parent) and focus on real-world exposure practice.
How clinicians use it- Assign modules 1 to 6 between sessions so session time goes to planning and practicing exposures
- Coach modules 7 to 12 in session, alongside the child’s own fear ladder
- Use the animated examples and videos of other kids facing fears to explain CBT and build buy-in
- Extend your reach in schools and community clinics, where coaches need no formal CBT training
Evidence: Evaluated in a research trial of web-based parent training for parents of youth with impairment from anxiety (Khanna, Carper, Harris, & Kendall, 2017, Evidence-Based Practice in Child and Adolescent Mental Health).
Child Anxiety Tales
Online parent training in how to help an anxious child at home
Ten animated, 35-minute modules teach parents how anxiety works, the FEAR plan, relaxation, challenging anxious thoughts, problem-solving, rewards, and how to encourage approach instead of avoidance. Includes a symptom checker, printable handouts, and tips from other parents.
How clinicians use it- Assign as parent homework alongside a child’s CBT so parents learn the same language and skills
- Use when parents can’t attend every session, or to prepare families on a waitlist
- Pair with Camp Cope-A-Lot so the whole family learns the same plan
- Support parents in reducing accommodation and reassurance at home
20 Years of Camp Cope-A-Lot
Camp Cope-A-Lot has been used in hospitals, clinics, and homes for two decades, helping tens of thousands of young people across the U.S. access evidence-based care they otherwise may not have reached.
